WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On July 13, Macron told the conference with Trump that France did not require President […]

Tel Aviv has come out in opposition to the Russian-US ceasefire deal in southern Syria. Speaking to Radio Sputnik, Russian Middle East expert Boris Dolgov said it was noteworthy that Israel is now supporting those militant groups which both Moscow and Washington classify as terrorists. Israel has voiced its opposition to the Russian-US ceasefire agreement reached by Presidents Putin and Trump at the G20 summit in Hamburg earlier this month. Western governments and media are free to say whatever they like, no matter how phoney I was brought up in a world where the “other side” — the Soviet Union mainly — lied through its teeth. When it said “liberation” it meant “oppression.” That its national newspaper was called Pravda (Truth) was seen as a […]

Trump Administration officials have made a rather public split with past efforts at diplomacy with North Korea. Yet they have continued to insist they intend to exhaust all possible options—including diplomatic ones—before taking some action to “solve” North Korea militarily. What sort of diplomatic approach is this? No approach at all. In reality, what […]

There is only one reason why the US is obsessed with North Korea. It allows the US to maintain a massive military presence in East Asia. If not for tensions on the Korean peninsula, the US would lose its rationale for its network of military bases in the region, which are primarily meant to threaten […]

The meeting between Trump and Putin at the G20 in Hamburg injects new hope into the complicated relationship between the United States and Russia. Only time can confirm whether there is any basis for this hope. The most eagerly anticipated meeting of the year, that between Putin and Trump, lasted far more than the scheduled 20 minutes, extending past two hours. This is not too much of a surprise given the points of friction that needed to be discussed, the many outstanding issues in international relations, and the fact that this was the first official meeting between the two world leaders. The results achieved exceeded initial ambitions, and the personal chemistry between Putin and Trump seems to have been sufficient to reach an important agreement in Syria as well as to conduct discussions surrounding cyber security. Trump even asked Putin about the alleged Russian hacking in the US presidential election as a way of appeasing detractors back home.

“North Korean Leadership May Be Ruthless and Reckless, But They Are Not Crazy” ‘Time is Not on Our Side': Former senior US government officials say there must be dialogue with North Korea Despite the rhetoric from the Trump administration about military confrontation with North Korea, the common theme of many U.S. experts on North Korea […]

[The 4th Media’s editorial note: The author presents essentially a far better analytical overview than many others, with a very constructive recommendation to “End the Korean War,” on the Korea question in general, the DPRK’s nuclear threat over against North American continent in particular. However, the facts the author used for his following (seemingly controversial and incorrect) […]

NAGASAKI – When the atomic bomb exploded over Nagasaki on Aug. 9, 1945, my mother was pregnant with me. She lived one or two mountains away from Urakami, the hypocenter area. Three days after the bombing, she went to her parents’ home in Urakami and was exposed to radiation. I lost my grandmother, two of […]

Part I BEIRUT — The dramatic arrival of Da’ish (ISIS) on the stage of Iraq has shocked many in the West. Many have been perplexed — and horrified — by its violence and its evident magnetism for Sunni youth. But more than this, they find Saudi Arabia’s ambivalence in the face of this manifestation both […]

China and Syria have already begun discussing post-war infrastructure investment; with a ‘Matchmaking Fair for Syria Reconstruction’ held in Beijing Amid the proverbial doom and gloom pervading all things Syria, the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune sometimes yield, well, good fortune. Take what happened this past Sunday in Beijing. The China-Arab Exchange Association and the Syrian Embassy organized a Syria Day Expo crammed with hundreds of Chinese specialists in infrastructure investment. It was a sort of mini-gathering of the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), billed as “The First Project Matchmaking Fair for Syria Reconstruction”.

Political opponents and US media are calling the uncovered past meeting between Donald Trump’s son and a Russian lawyer a “smoking gun”. This is the proof, we are told, that the Trump election team did indeed collude with the Russian government in order to win the US election at the end of last year. Since […]

Over the past quarter century progressive writers, activists and academics have followed a trajectory from left to right – with each presidential campaign seeming to move them further to the right. Beginning in the 1990’s progressives mobilized millions in opposition to wars, voicing demands for the transformation of the US’s corporate for-profit medical system into […]

The Trump-Putin Meeting: Establishment of a Personal Relationship, “There was Positive Chemistry Between the Two” On July 7 following Trump’s meeting with Putin, a US Press Briefing was held at the G-20 in Hamburg. It is important to analyze the shift in political discourse of both President Trump and Secretary of State Tillerson. The main contribution of the Trump-Putin meeting was to establish communication at a personal level. The World is at a dangerous crossroads. That Trump-Putin personal relationship is fundamental. History tells us that political misunderstandings can lead to war.On July 7 following Trump’s meeting with Putin, a US Press Briefing was held at the G-20 in Hamburg. It is important to analyze the shift in political discourse of both President Trump and Secretary of State Tillerson. The main contribution of the Trump-Putin meeting was to establish communication at a personal level. The World is at a dangerous crossroads. That Trump-Putin personal relationship is fundamental. History tells us that political misunderstandings can lead to war. Admittedly, no significant shifts in US foreign policy have occurred: the Pentagon’s military agenda prevails under the helm of Defense Secretary “Mad Dog” James Mattis. Media lies and political deceit also prevail. Yet at the same time, discussion and diplomatic exchange have resumed –which in many regards is an important achievement.

On June 14th, Human Rights Watch headlined “Danger From US White Phosphorous”, and linked to far more evidence of America’s firebombings in Syria and Iraq, than had ever been presented regarding the alleged-by-America April 4th sarin gas event that allegedly resulted in Syria from one of Assad’s bombs on that day having hit a ‘rebel’ […]
