Tahrir Square is dark, and all of a sudden endlessly sad. There are still countless tents in the middle of the roundabout, banners carried by the wind, even a small and provisory ‘Museum of Revolution’. From time to time one can hear, as if some echo of bygone and glorious times, passionate music and the […]

January 29, 2013, Port Said, Egypt. It is dark, pitch dark, on the streets of Port Said. Small groups of young men are gathering in the center of the city, mostly around burnt out cars. Some are very restless. They shout and gesticulate, furious. Fires are burning in the middle of the streets. After recent clashes […]

From Cairo, January 28, 2013. The smoke everywhere, tear gas, riot police with light and heavy weapons, protesters, religious cadres, even common thugs. As if there has been no tragedy of a great magnitude that occurred in this city just a few short minutes drive from its pseudo-Baroque arches and security guards. Devastating floods, the worst since 2007, have taken at least […]

Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos – millions of tons of bombs dropped on them from strategic B-52’s, from dive-bombers, and from jet fighters. The falling bombs rained on the pristine countryside, murdering children, women, and water buffalo – millions of people perished. No apologies, no admission of guilt, and no compensation came from the tyrant-nations.

Journalists and researchers have to follow strict rules before accusing Western governments, companies or individuals of any wrongdoing. Or else, draconic regulations will ensure they face defamation cases or public ridicule or both. It appears that only Western interests, or the interests of the West’s allies, are well protected against groundless accusations. As for others, […]
