One of the strangest news developments of our time is the way the media now focus for days, if not weeks, 24/7, on a single event and its ramifications. Omar Mateen’s slaughter of 49 people at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando is only the latest example of this. If no other calamitous or eye-catching event […]

Battle for Sirte and continuing division prompts imperialist rationale for further intervention Fighting for control of the western coastal city of Sirte, Libya has resulted in the fleeing of more people from this embattled North African state which five years ago was targeted for regime-change by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the Pentagon and NATO. The American prison system is a massive — if invisible — part of our economy and social fabric. Slavery has been abolished in the United States since 1865, when the 13th Amendment was passed in the ashes of the Civil War. Well, almost abolished. Actually, the amendment included a caveat: “except as punishment for a […]

No city in Iraq is more symbolic of the criminal consequences of the US invasion of Iraq than Fallujah. Prior to 2003, the 300,000-strong, prosperous, predominantly Sunni Muslim community on the Euphrates River, one of humanity’s oldest continuous urban settlements, was known as the “city of mosques.” After 13 years of destruction at the hands of the US military and its client state in Baghdad, it is today a labyrinth of ruins, a city of the dead. Following weeks of air strikes by US, British and Australian bombers, a combination of Iraqi government forces and Shiite militias is reportedly on the verge of a final offensive to seize back Fallujah from some 500 fighters of the Sunni-extremist Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), which took control of the city in early 2014. Iraqi special forces units are accompanied by elite troops of the US, British and Australian militaries, who direct air strikes and ground artillery bombardments and provide tactical advice to Iraqi commanders.

Video: Secretary of State John Kerry this week waved off concerns about U.S.-supported Saudi-coalition airstrikes in Yemen that have indiscriminately bombed civilians and rescuers, and instead blamed the Shiite Houthi rebels for the bulk of the civilian casualties. “There have been a lot of civilian casualties, and clearly, civilian casualties are a concern,” Kerry told […]

The secret expansion of U.S. military bases and special operations in Africa has initiated a new and lightweight style of warfare and welcomes the next phase of American military imperialism. Unlike the highly publicized U.S. military “pivot to Asia,” the proliferation of drones, special ops, mercenary spies, classified bases, proxy fighters and cyber warfare constitute what […]

Uncle Sam’s Support for Terrorism Laid Bare The McClatchy news service scoop that Labib al-Nahhas, the Syrian foreign affairs director of al-Qaeda’s ally Ahrar ash-Sham, visited Washington, DC in December 2015 should have created a huge political stir in a presidential election year. However, the fact that the Obama administration has been consorting with terrorist allies of […]

Introduction  President Obama is racing forward to establish his imperial legacy throughout Russia, Asia and Latin America. In the last two years he has accelerated the buildup of his military nuclear arsenal on the frontiers of Russia.  The Pentagon has designed a high tech anti-missile system to undermine Russian defenses. In Latin America, Obama has shed his shallow pretense […]

The 13th Islamic Summit titled ‘Unity and Solidarity for Justice and Peace’of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (IOC) finished its work on April 12 in Istanbul. The Summit Conference was chaired by Turkey’s President, Recep Erdogan. Amid the numerous analytical and news reports about the event, SouthFront wants to mark the traces which could help to forecast the further actions and strategies of some states which participated in the summit. The Turkish Prime Minister, Ahmet Davutoğlu, stated the importance and pushed the issue of the “occupied Islamic territories”: Palestine, Nagorno-Karabakh and Crimea. He expressed concern over the situation there and emphasized that they should be rescued through cultural, religious and other means, because these territories are detached from the Islamic Ummah.

Turkish Head of State Erdogan may think that he has everything under control in Turkey, but the proverbial noose is tightening around his throat as irrefutable evidence of his global evil empire comes to light. It is very likely that he will soon face grave charges in the International Criminal Court. All the roads out of ISIS-held territory in Syria and Iraq lead to Turkey and to Erdogan’s massive oil smuggling ring. Since December 2015, Russia has been presenting hard evidence of ISIS oil smuggling into Turkey and has consistently pointed at the Erdogan family as the mastermind behind operations. There are piles of hard evidence of this smuggling and it is near impossible that US satellites and Intel drones could have missed thousands of oil trucks entering Turkey from ISIS-controlled Syrian areas.

The terror bombings in Paris and Brussels have raised a cacophony of voices, ranging from state officials, Prime Ministers and Presidents, to academics, journalists and media consultants.  Tons of ink and print have focused on the psychology, networks and operations of the alleged perpetrators – radicalized young Muslim citizens of the EU. Few have examined […]

A full year has passed since the beginning of the Saudi military intervention in Yemen, when warplanes of the so-called “Arab allies” started bombing the capital of Yemen, Sana’a back into the stone age. At the same time the United States and France were providing its Arab parnters with logistical support and weapons, while London […]

Terrorism and Rights Edition This chart tells you not about terrorism, but about the nature of the people living in and running Western Europe today. So, not even close to peak. Yet Europeans in the 70s did not get rid of their civil liberties in the way that France, for example, has. They also did […]

Sham ‘unity’ regime creates further divisions in North African state A half decade after the United States led destabilization and bombing of Libya, the attempts by imperialism to establish a stable neo-colonial dominated regime has not materialized. BRICS Under Attack: The Empire Strikes Back In Brazil In Brazil, the government of Dilma Rousseff is facing a major destabilization campaign orchestrated by powerful right-wing elements in the country and their U.S. backers. Under the always convenient banner of “anti-corruption,” millions have turned out in the streets to demand the ouster of the twice-elected Rousseff government on the heels of a series of revelations about alleged corruption pertaining to the quasi-state, quasi-private Petrobras oil company. According to the allegations, a number of leading political figures, some of whom are connected to President Rousseff and the Workers’ Party, have skimmed at least 3 percent of the billions in oil revenue from Petrobras, illustrating the still active tradition of corruption in Brazil.
